This April 29, 2005 will be LOCK 4 VOL. FIRE CO. 131 year of service to the Borough of North Charleroi

The first Fire House was located at the Borough Shed Behind Library Hall which was also formally known as the Calvary Bible Church. The shed stored two small factory type hose carts. The cart wheels were of steel about 40" high. Each drum would carry 150' of hose, but when taken out onto the streets, the hose would drag in the mud making it difficult to move anywhere. At the first firemen's meeting Allen Goe was elected as the first Fire Chief of the North Charleroi Borough. In 1924 ideas were brought about to purchase a 1924 REO pumper. The Fire Company did so with the attention of a bazaar. With the Fire Company doing so well they also purchased a piece of land adjacent to 6th and Rt.88 The cement floor is still visible to passing motorists.

In 1936 The Fire Company purchased a Seagrave pumper and housed it at the new station along Rt. 88 In 1948 the Fire Company sold the 1924 REO pumper for a 1949 Seagrave pumper. The Fire Company needed more space to house its engines and equipment. With the help from many residential donations the Fire Company relocated its station in 1965 to Orange and Isabella Aves. The New Station included a two bay garage, kitchen, office, dance floor, and a meeting room. In 1966 they purchased a Seagrave type K pumper to keep the fire protection updatedat a cost of $3600.00. Later that year they sold their 1936 Seagrave pumper. Due to the economy growing rapidly the 1949 Seagrave pumper was now out dated. The Fire Company raised every penny to buy a 1972 Seagrave/FWD type K. This truck only cost $6500.00 at the time.

Soon after the purchase of the 1972 Seagrave pumper construction began on the Annex. The Annex served as a lounge and the meeting area to the members of the organization. In 1996 plans were set for the purchasing of a new apparatus. The Fire Company sold the 1966 Seagrave pumper to make way for their new engine. They later recieved a Pierce Dash Top Mount pumper at the cost of well over $200,000.00. In 2004 the Fire Company purchased a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer 4x4 for a Squad Unit to relieve the stress of running a engine to every call. Currently the Station houses a 1972 Seagrave/FWD type K pumper, 1996 Chevrolet Blazer 4x4 Squad, and a 1997 Pierce Dash pumper.
